Argentina boss Basile walks out

Argentina boss Alfio Basile has walked out on his country for the second time, following an embarrassing loss to Chile.

The defeat, the first time Chile had beaten their neighbours since 1973, left Argentina third in their group half-way through the World Cup qualifying process.

Basile told the Argentine FA of his decision yesterday. A spokesman said: "The national teams committee tried to persuade him to postpone his decision but Basile was very decided, very determined."

He was previously in charge of Argentina in the early 1990's, leaving them after their 1994 world cup ended in a second-round defeat to Romania.
