The Argentina World Cup winner will be cheering on Sir Alex Ferguson's side because of his friendship with compatriot Carlos Tevez, who is expected to start the match in Moscow.
Maradona said: "Chelsea and Manchester United are two great teams. They are both very strong tactically and the level of their individual players is very high. As for a winner, I will say United because of Carlos Tevez.
"I have friends at Chelsea but I will be supporting United."
The 47-year-old was speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, where Maradona By Kusturica, a documentary about his life by Serbian film maker Emir Kusturica, had its premiere yesterday.
The movie puts a spotlight on the cult of personality around Maradona.
Hilarious footage shows followers of the "Maradonian Church" formed by worshipping fans, who sing his name to the tune of "Ave Maria," build religious shrines to him and even celebrate a wedding in his honour.
On screen, Maradona says he would never shake hands with Prince Charles and he calls US President George Bush "a piece of human garbage".
Off-screen, Maradona said: "I've abandoned all my bad habits. Now I have a different life. I'm not living at 100 miles an hour."
