Armstrong 'set for Tour comeback'

Lance Armstrong was today linked with a sensational return to cycling in a bid to win his eighth Tour de France title.

It was reported by US website VeloNews that Armstrong, who turns 37 next week, would come out of retirement to compete in five road races for the Astana team, including the Tour.

Armstrong won the event seven times between 1999 and 2005 despite being diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996.

Although he gave up competing in road races, Armstrong took part in the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race last month where he finished second.

However, a spokesman for the Astana cycling team, Philippe Maertens, said: "I don't know where the rumours come from. I cannot tell you more."
