Arsenal set to pip Newcastle in the race for Swiss ace midfielder Inler after making a £5m bid

have moved ahead of in the race for Udinese midfielder Goekhan Inler by tabling a £5m bid.


The figure activates the release clause in Inler’s contract, and leaves Arsene Wenger as a clear favourite to sign the Switzerland international.

Newcastle are still hopeful of completing an £8m deal for Deportivo La Coruna’s Argentine centre-back Fabricio Coloccini and a £1.5m move for Metz defender Sebastien Bassong.

Meanwhile, Abdoulaye Faye could be on his way back to the north-west just a year after joining Newcastle from Bolton for £2m. Blackburn, Stoke, Wigan and Everton are all showing an interest in the Senegal centre-back.
