A-Class: Oliver Jarvis records Britain's first victory in the A1 GP

Great Britain claimed their first ever A1GP victory in the feature race in Mexico City on Sunday.

Oliver Jarvis held off a determined challenge from the United States' Jonathan Summerton with South African Adrian Zaugg in third.

Jarvis, who had earlier finished second in the sprint race, feared he had a problem with his car in the closing stages, reporting some heavy vibration as he battled to stay ahead of 18-year-old Summerton.

The pit crew were on standby for a tyre change but the 23-year-old held on to take the chequered flag by less than a second for Britain's first win in 40 races.

Malaysia's Alex Yoong, winner of the sprint race, suffered a bad start from pole position and eventually finished fifth.

Ireland's Richard Lyons finished 16th, more than a minute behind Jarvis.

Jarvis made a superb start to lead into the first corner and remained in front until pitting after nine laps.

An excellent stop helped Jarvis resume the lead on lap 18 and he never looked like surrendering it despite some late pressure from Summerton.

"This is just a fantastic result for the whole team and a great boost ahead of our return to home soil for the A1GP season finale at Brands Hatch next month," Jarvis said.

"Everyone's worked so hard for this result and it's a great reward for everyone's efforts.

"Jonathan pushed really hard at the end but I felt I had everything under control through to the chequered flag. Hopefully it won't be so long now until the next British win."
