Anxious Jol chases West Brom target after Kaboul injury
Last updated at 14:23pm on 15.08.07Tottenham will today step up their bid to sign West Brom defender Curtis Davies after their crushing 3-1 defeat to Everton left them bottom of the Premier League.
They have chased the 22-year-old for 18 months but are arguing money with West Brom who are holding out for £10million, which is £2m more than Spurs want to pay.

Tottenham were booed off last night and their defensive crisis has worsened with Younes Kaboul joining Michael Dawson and Ledley King on the sidelines having limped off with a hamstring injury after just 18 minutes of his home debut.
Martin Jol has only four fit defenders for Saturday's game against Derby, but the Dutchman's problem is even more severe with Anthony Gardner and Ricardo Rocha struggling for form.
Spurs lost their opening game of the season away at Sunderland last weekend and head coach Jol said today: "I feel as rotten as I felt on Sunday.
"We will do better, I am certain of that. It is a kick in the teeth but we will bounce back."
Spurs want to use the funds from Mido's £6.8m move to Middlesbrough, expected to be finalised today, to pay for Davies and will try to strike a deal with the Championship club.
West Brom manager Tony Mowbray left Davies out of the team that beat Bournemouth 1-0 in the Carling Cup last night, saying the defender "is finding it hard to get himself in the right frame of mind".
Jol has already spent £40m over the summer, but is feeling the pressure after two straight defeats in a season in which he is expected to get the club into the top four.
