They go into today's home clash against Newcastle with a squad depleted by injuries and suspensions, including Ashley Cole, who lost his appeal against a Boxing Day red card.

Grant said: "I can guarantee you that any player we're interested in, the price will be suddenly more than we thought.
"But what can we do? I will pay it. He (Roman Abramovich) knows the situation we're in and what we need to do."
