Tottenham have been linked with a move for Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko. The 6ft 2in Spartak Moscow forward, 26, has also been watched by Manchester United, Everton and Celtic.

Spartak general director Sergei Shavlo said: ‘At the moment we have received two invitations to negotiate his move. One of them is from an English team.’

However, he added: ‘Since it’s not a team playing in the Champions League we are more likely than not to reject their offer.’

Spurs are considering their options up front with Liverpool trailing Robbie Keane — valued at £20million — and Sunderland desperate to sign Darren Bent.

Dimitar Berbatov’s future is expected to be clearer over the next 24 hours but there are no takers at the current £30m valuation.

Manager Juande Ramos needs to generate funds if he is to add to his squad. But Spurs remain favourites to sign Blackburn’s David Bentley and another move for Sevilla’s Diego Capel is possible.
