John Rooney has joined big brother Wayne in the professional ranks - but will earn around ten thousand times a week less than the Manchester United and England star.

Striker John, 17, has signed a two-year deal for League Two Macclesfield for £150 a week after coming through the youth ranks - the equivalent of £7,800 a year.

Wayne had already made his Premiership bow with Everton at the age of 16 - but John has managed just two first-team appearances so far for the Moss Rose club.

Wayne, 22, earns £110,000 a week at Manchester United - a cool £5.7m a year - plus millions in sponsorship but still takes time to travel from his mansion in Prestbury to watch John at Macclesfield.

John either stays with Wayne for training or travels down from his parents’ home on Merseyside.

The Silkmen are convinced they can make a star out of their ex-Everton youngster and have tried to keep him out of the spotlight.

Macclesfield youth-team boss John Askey said: 'John has come on leaps and bounds in the last year.

'He is still by no means a finished product but if he continues to progress the way he has done, then he will score a lot of goals.

'For his age he is very strong and he’s now got the chance to work and train with the first team and hopefully show what he can do.'

John made his first-team debut against Barnet in March and had his first start in their last game at Chester.
