(INSIDER'S RATING: 0/5 means this deal's pie in the sky. 5/5 and it's a done deal)

Berbatov

Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov, Tottenham to AC Milan or Barcelona - Insider says: 1/5

The Bulgarian has set his heart on a move to Manchester United and spent most of last season saying so to his friends. Spurs might be trying to play hardball with United by suggesting they would take £5m less from Milan or Barcelona if it meant they didn’t have to sell Berbatov to their Premier League rivals, but it is unlikely to work. Milan have blown most of their budget on signing Ronaldinho and would not be able to afford Berbatov — or offer him Champions League football. Barca are a more realistic option, but not if the player doesn’t want to go there. United want Berbatov, he wants United, and Spurs want £30m. Sir Alex Ferguson has offered £20m — expect a deal to be done somewhere in between before the start of the season.

Muntari

Muntari

Sulley Muntari, Portsmouth to Inter Milan - Insider says: 5/5

While Harry Redknapp is reluctant to let the Ghana midfielder leave Fratton Park, the chance to return to Serie A with the Italian champions is just too tempting for Muntari to turn down. He is expected to a agree a four-year deal at the San Siro which, significantly, would appear to signal the end of Jose Mourinho’s pursuit of Frank Lampard — at least for another year. Redknapp has the consolation of almost doubling his money on a player who cost £7m from Udinese 12 months ago.

Love

Love

Wagner Love, CSKA Moscow to Everton - Insider says: 2/5

Although David Moyes will be in the market for a striker once Andy Johnson completes his move to Fulham, it is hard to see how the Everton manager could afford the £20m asking price for Love — particularly if he is serious about an £18m deal for Sporting Lisbon playmaker Joao Moutinho. The Brazilian striker has been hawked around Europe for a while now, and the fact he is now being linked with Manchester City and Valencia as well as Everton smacks of desperation. Valencia are fighting a financial crisis and admit they might have to sell David Villa, David Silva and Joaquin, while City are unlikely to give CSKA another £20m having already taken Jo off their hands this summer.

Harper

Harper

James Harper, Reading to Middlesbrough - Insider says: 5/5

The transfer merry-go-round is starting to turn. Wigan making a well-timed inquiry for Fulham’s Jimmy Bullard was enough to convince Middlesbrough to accept an improved offer of £3.5m for Lee Cattermole, and Gareth Southgate won’t waste any time sinking that cash into a bid for Harper. Having let George Boateng leave for Hull and sold the out-of-favour Cattermole, Southgate needs a central midfielder and Harper has been his No 1 target all summer. The fee was £5m but — as with striker Dave Kitson’s move to Stoke — Reading boss Steve Coppell will try to push it up to £5.5m.

Jermaine Pennant

Pennant

Jermaine Pennant, Liverpool to Blackburn - Insider says: 3/5

Blackburn are preparing for life after David Bentley and Pennant represents a decent option — but not at the £6m Liverpool are hoping to bank for the former Arsenal winger. It is only £700,000 less than Rafa Benitez paid Birmingham two years ago, and he has hardly set Anfield alight in the meantime. Benitez is ready to let Pennant go and Blackburn would certainly be interested in him as replacement for Tottenham-bound Bentley, but wouldn’t be prepared to go much higher than £4m.

McGeady

McGeady

Aidan McGeady, Celtic to Newcastle/Sunderland - Insider says: 2/5

If McGeady wants to leave Celtic, he has a funny way of showing it after signing a new five-year deal at the weekend. However, north-east rivals Newcastle and Sunderland have not given up hope of bringing him to trhe Premier League, even though they are unlikely to meet Celtic's £10m valuation of the Republic of Ireland winger. Roy Keane is believed to be putting together a £6m bid for his former Celtic team-mate, while Kevin Keegan is prepared to offer £5m plus Charles N’Zogbia.
