Wenger's latest Arsenal recruit Bischoff deemed a 'nobody' by German tabloid

Wenger: His new signing Bischoff has been greeted with scepticism

Arsene Wenger has a record of unearthing young talent but news of the manager's latest signing has been greeted with scepticism in some quarters.

Amaury Bischoff, 21, completed his move from Werder Bremen yesterday with one German tabloid proclaiming: 'Werder nobody signs for Arsenal.'

That reaction is down to the fact Bischoff's career has been so badly hit by injuries he played just 16 minutes for Bremen's first team last season.

And although the French-born midfielder has committed his international future to Portugal, the country of his mother's birth, injuries have prevented him from playing for their Under-21 side.

Bischoff has had two operations on his groin and although Arsenal have tracked his progress for some time they waited until this summer for him to fully recover before completing the free transfer.

His new team continued their pre-season with a 3-1 win away to Stuttgart last night. Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela and Jack Wilshere all scored against former team-mate Jens Lehmann.
