Football fans throughout Britain can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing reports that former goalkeeping star Steve Ogrizovic is being held hostage by the Kazakhstan government are wide of the mark.

The website 'Petitions Online' claimed the 45-year-old former Coventry and Liverpool player had been arrested on spying charges while on a charity walk around the world and called on people to pressurise the former Soviet state for the shot-stopper's release.

But the man who helped Coventry beat Spurs in the 1987 Cup Final is facing nothing more dangerous today than his normal duties as academy director at the Highfield Road club.

He said: "I haven't made any trips to Kazakhstan of late - nor am I planning to. I can only assume I have been cloned!"
