Ascot blow for Godolphin: Injured Creachadoir out of Queen Anne Stakes

Godolphin's hopes of a Royal Ascot filip have been dealt a savage blow after Creachadoir sustained a career-threatening injury yesterday.

The colt, who supplied Sheik Mohammed's team with their only European Group One race of the season so far when he won the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, had been the stable's big hope for the meeting.

Creachadoir ridden by Kevin Manning crosses the line to win the 2000 guineas trial stakes at Leopardstown Racecourse.

He had been due to run in the Queen Anne Stakes on Tuesday, a race the stable has previous won with Allied Forces, Cape Cross, Charnwood Forest, Dubai Destination, Intikhab, Refduse To Bend and, last season, Ramonti.

Ramonti was ruled out of a repeat bid last week as he continues to recuperate from injury.

Now trainer Saeed Bin Suroor is relying on King's Stand entry Dandy Man to lead a first-day team and hoping Rio De la Plata recovers from soreness incurred when losing a shoe in last weekend's Derby to take his chance in the St James's Palace Stakes.

Simon Crisford, the stable's racing manager, said: 'Creachadoir has required surgery and it will take a few weeks before we are in a position to decide whether we keep him in training.

'He worked well on the Limekilns and seemed fine when he came back to the stables, but when he was cooling off we noticed he was lame. We investigated it immediately and found he had a fracture of his right fore.

'He was our flagship horse for the meeting. He's been working so well it is a great shame.

'Rio is a bit foot sore after Epsom because he lost a shoe. He is much improved but it is a question of monitoring the horse. If we are pleased with him,  we'll let him take his chance providing the ground isn't too firm.'

Ill Warrd is also in the St James's Palace but more likely to run in Wednesday's Jersey Stakes along with stablemate Calming Influence.

Campanologist goes for the King Edward VII Stakes on Friday and Regal Flush is a likely starter in Thursday's Gold Cup but he is will be an outsider.

Creachadoir joins a Godolphin injury list which also includes its leading three-year-olds Fast Company and Ibn Khaldun.
