Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill primed to swoop for Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen

O'Neill's desire to sign the highly-rated 32-year-old Finland star appears to be the worst kept secret in the Barclays Premier League and, as the season draws to a close, the former Celtic manager is now ready to swoop.

Jussi the job: Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen is wanted by Villa
Jaaskelainen is currently out injured with a back problem which has sidelined him for the rest of the season. It means he is unlikely to play for Bolton again as he is out of contract at the end of the season, and with O'Neill unwilling to pay the £10million wanted by Liverpool for on-loan Scott Carson, who has impressed at Villa Park, he will turn instead to Jaaskelainen.
The Finnish stopper has been inundated with offers but, with his contract running down, is keen to join a club where he is No 1 rather than just back-up.
Jaaskelainen joined Bolton for £100,000 from VPS Vaasa in 1997 but turned down a new contract with the club last summer.
