Back Adams to be quick on the draw

Evidence from Scotland yesterday was that a high draw could be a prize asset in this afternoon's totesport.com Ayr Gold Cup.

The Silver Cup dress rehearsal was dominated by those drawn on the stands' side rail and connections of market leaders, Borderlescott and Indian Trail, will be heartened by Utmost Respect's smooth win.

However, both have been priced accordingly and it could pay to look for some value in the shape of GRANTLEY ADAMS (Ayr, 3.30).

Mick Channon's stable has sent out nine winners in the past fortnight and the son of Dansili heads to Scotland on the back of a promising effort at Goodwood.

The four-year-old, who had been a creditable fifth in the Wokingham Handicap after stumbling early, was badly treated by race conditions when behind Beckermet.

He is better judged on his previous performances in the Bunbury and Stewards' Cups.

There is a slight doubt that the ground may be a little too soft for the selection, but yesterday's race times suggested that conditions weren't as bad as first feared and his run at Royal Ascot was achieved with cut in the ground.

At the prices, he looks worth a tow into the race courtesy of front-running Borderlescott. If there is to be a winner drawn low, then Zomerlust's odds are attractive for a sprinter who has plenty of decent form at Ayr and favours some cut in the ground.

BOLD CROSS (Wolverhampton, nap, 7.55) is in superb form and could supplement his victory at Warwick last weekend.

Edward Bevan's small team have been in great form of late and his representative won with a little in hand.

There is always a concern with Bold Cross that he can be a little free in his races and the small field is a slight negative.

However, Paul Fitzsimons knows him well and I'm optimistic he can settle his mount.

DARK ANGEL (Newbury, nb, 2.35) should appreciate the return to the six furlongs of the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes after failing to adapt to the minimum trip at Doncaster last time, while any overnight rain will be in the favour of MIGHTY MOON (Catterick, 3.35) who has solid course form.

Today's lay goes the way of Matterofact (Wolverhampton, 7.00), whose stamina is far from confirmed over tonight's trip.
