Bad timing may force Spurs to downsize new ground plans

Tottenham may be forced to curb their ambitious plans to nearly double White Hart Lane's capacity to 60,000 because of the downturn in the economic climate.

A report in the Guardian claims directors may have to limit their ambitions to vastly expand attendance levels from the current maximum of 36,000.

This is apparently being blamed on timing rather than a lack of ambition among directors as there are also doubts that Haringey Council will provide grant aid for a full redevelopment.

The Olympic project is also monopolising spending on transport improvements in North East London and the report says the price of property adjoining the current ground and development restrictions have also contributed although it is believed Spurs have bought up most of the nearby property on the High Road and behind the Paxton Road end of the Lane.

Spurs have promised to announce a decision in the first half of next year.
