Baddeley desperate to make effort pay

Andy Baddeley is desperate to gain some reward for all the "bloody hard work" which has earned him a place in today's Olympic 1500 metres final.

The Harrow athlete, who was born in the Wirrall, is rated as an outside medal chance in a wide-open contest which also includes France's Mehdi Baala and Rashid Ramzi of Bahrain, who impressed during qualifying.

Baddeley, 26, said: "It's all going according to plan so far. It's bloody hard work but that's what it's about, that's why I have been training so hard."
