Baggies striker Phillips happy to say 'Yes' to a Brum deal

On the move: Kevin Phillips

Kevin Phillips has given Alex McLeish a verbal assurance that he will join Birmingham City, after accepting the Scot's two-year contract offer.

The former England striker, who will be 35 this month, has turned his back on West Bromwich after they rejected his overtures for a similar deal.

The Hawthorns hierarchy are believed to have made Phillips a one year offer, with an option for a further 12 months.

However, that was insufficient to entice the Championship's leading scorer last term into a Premier League swansong.

And despite interest from Derby, who this week signed Liam Dickinson from Stockport, it seems that Phillips will join Birmingham. McLeish is happy he has found a replacement for Mikael Forssell.
