Beasley kick-starts spending spree

The 25-year-old will conclude the formalities of his £700,000 transfer from PSV Eindhoven and Sportsmail understands Beasley will soon be joined at Ibrox by Lee McCulloch.

Negotiations were ongoing last night over a £2million-plus deal for the Wigan attacker, with an extended spell at Ibrox for on-loan Andy Webster part of the talks.
Julien Faubert could also arrive soon after Bordeaux yesterday invited Rangers to make an official bid for the French international winger.
But Scotland forward Stevie Naismith remains at Kilmarnock for the moment after a fresh bid was rejected.
Beasley, who spent last season on loan at Manchester City, will be introduced to his new team-mates as they return for pre-season training today.
Having won the Gold Cup with the United States on Sunday night, though, he will be granted a two-week holiday before reporting back for a pre-season training camp in Germany.
McCulloch is likely to be a Rangers player by then, too, after the Ibrox club edged closer to meeting Wigan's £2.5m valuation.
Sportsmail understands fellow Scotland cap Webster is also likely to extend his loan agreement until January.
Faubert, meanwhile, reported for pre-season training at Bordeaux yesterday - and promptly told the club of his wish to move on.
However, chairman Jean-Louis Triaud insists no deal can be done until an official offer is made.
"I'm not saying Julien will cost Rangers as much as Didier Drogba and Michael Essien," said Triaud. "But, in terms of importance to our side, he is valued just as much.
"He has told us that he wants to sign for Rangers. We're not OK with that. The player has a long-term contract and what is written down on paper should normally be respected.
"But, while I know transfers don't work that way, I also know we are in a position of strength.
"We will command the fee that we want for Julien. We have received a fax from Rangers but all it said was that they were interested in our player.
"If they are serious about the player, they should attach an offer and see what we say."
Kilmarnock yesterday rejected a new six-figure bid for Naismith, with manager Jim Jefferies saying: "We did receive an offer but it is well below our valuation."
Rangers retain an interest in Osasuna defender Carlos Cuellar but, having had two offers turned down, will bide their time before launching a third bid.
