Beckham launches 70-yarder to beat his 1996 United effort against Wimbledon

David Beckham will join up with the England squad today after scoring from fully 70 yards during LA Galaxy's 3-1 victory over Kansas City.

With the Kansas goalkeeper having marauded forward in search of a late equaliser, Beckham launched a shot from his own half to confirm victory for Galaxy.

The goal was reminiscent of the one Beckham scored for Manchester United at Wimbledon in September 1996 - the strike that catapulted him into the limelight.

The former England captain's club-mate Landon Donovan was also flying out to London to join the US squad - England's opponents on Wednesday.

Donovan will emulate Beckham by winning his 100th cap if he plays at Wembley and Bradley is convinced both LA men still have much to offer despite disappointing World Cups in 2006.

USA coach Bob Bradley said: "David Beckham can still play a great ball. He can deliver short passes and long passes and obviously free-kicks so he is still a very dangerous guy.

"Landon is a smart player, one of our most important. Because he plays in Major League Soccer people don't see him that often so this is a good opportunity for him to show them what he can do.

"To play 100 games is an amazing achievement especially when you consider he
is only 26-years old."
