UEFA has made it clear to the Football-Association that a repeat of the crowd trouble before, during and after the Turkey match last month would see England expelled from the competition.
The team were partly blamed for the pitch invasions that took place after both goals against the Turks because of elaborate goal celebrations and the England captain admitted the players also had to take responsibility.
Beckham, in Durban to prepare for tomorrow's friendly against South Africa, said: "The crowd trouble that went on, with supporters coming on to the pitch in the heat of the moment, is something that shouldn't happen. If it does happen anymore, then we'll be thrown out of the competition - and it's something we don't want. The Turkey game was one to remember for the whole atmosphere although it did tipple over a little bit and in the heat of the moment things happen.
"But we have to be careful now because it has been made clear the players are partly responsible for what happened. I don't totally agree because when players score important goals they are going to celebrate. But it has to be cut down.
"Those changes have got to be made and we have got to agree with that because we want to stay in the competition."
The Manchester United star was one of a group of England players who met the former South African president Nelson Mandela today in Johannesburg.
Beckham said: "Nelson Mandela is a father figure for the new South Africa."
Meanwhile, Beckham confirmed he would be delighted to be an ambassador for London's 2012 Olympics bid after Standard Sport revealed yesterday that bid organisers were going to approach the player.
"No one has approached me, but to be honest it would be a great honour. If Raul and ( Zinedine) Zidane are doing it for various bids, then I'd love to as well. It would be a great honour."
