Paula Radcliffe flew out of London on Sunday night on the penultimate leg of her Olympic journey determined to win the marathon medal that eluded her in Athens.
'This is confirmation that she is making good progress,' said UK Athletics' performance director Dave Collins, who will welcome her to Team GB's holding camp in Macau today.
Preparing for lift-off: Great Britain's Paula Radcliffe was all smiles on Sunday night as she prepared to jet off to Macau to join Britain's other athletes.
Radcliffe, who is recovering from a stress fracture, was accompanied by husband Gary, daughter Isla and her physiotherapist.
She has not run a marathon since she won in New York in November and has only been back in intensive training for four weeks. 'The task she has taken on is a considerable one,' admitted Collins.
A decision on whether Radcliffe runs will not be taken until three days before the marathon on August 17. 'That will be a team effort, involving coaches, medics and herself,' said Collins.
Hockey girls break China
Britain's hockey women warmed up for the Games with a 2-1 win over host nation China yesterday in a match shortened to 30 minutes because of the searing heat in the Beijing Olympic Green Hockey Stadium. Britain went ahead through a Crista Cullen drag-flick midway through the first half and Mel Clewlow doubled the lead after the break. China pulled a goal back but Britain held out for a win which satisfied head coach Danny Kerry, whose squad face the Netherlands in their final preparation game on Wednesday.
First class treament for Tomlinson
Chris Tomlinson, the British long jump record holder who damaged his foot last weekend at Crystal Palace, will be flown to Beijing in business class if doctors decide he is fit to compete. 'He is longer than others,' explained UKA performance director Dave Collins yesterday.
Typhoon alert
The Olympic sailing events face disruption from typhoons. Weather experts predict two or three tropical typhoons will hit the coast of China this month and are likely to affect the sailing venues in Qingdao, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Last week Typhoon Fung Wong forced the evacuation of 390,000 in the east of China.
