Champion: Daley blew away the competition in Eindhoven
This stunning dive helped Daley, one of Sportsmail's Magnificent Seven for the London 2012 Olympics, claim 10 perfect 10s and land the European 10 metres platform diving title in Eindhoven — 59 days short of his 14th birthday.
It was a remarkable turnaround after Daley and his dive partner Blake Aldridge had recorded their worst showing as a pair when finishing sixth in the synchronised platform event on Sunday.
Then in yesterday's preliminary round, Daley's coach Andy Banks had to work with him between sessions on a flaw that was costing the youngster vital points and had seen him drop to sixth.
"Normally I do that third dive a lot better, so I did get a bit worried after it," said Daley.
Banks admitted: "I thought the gold was out of the window. Not so long ago, Tom would have thrown his toys out of the pram at that point."
Lesser minds would have blown, but Daley seemed to be the coolest lad on the pool deck, refusing to watch his rivals' dives and instead listening to his Mp3 player with his back to the boards.
"I knew I had to turn it around," he said.
And, oh boy, how he did!
