Benayoun set to stay at Anfield after Leto is denied a work permit

Yossi Benayoun has won his battle to stay at Liverpool after the club were denied a work permit for Argentine winger Sebastian Leto, 21.

Leto, whose Italian passport was revoked last season, is set to leave on loan for Olympiacos.

Benayoun said: ‘I was always determined to stay at Liverpool, despite suggestions I’d be on my way — this is where my future is.’

Gareth Barry’s move to Anfield moved a step closer after he was left behind when Aston Villa headed for a training camp in Spain, although the club’s owners have yet to meet the £18m asking price.
