Liverpool are weighing up a move for Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta.

The 22-year-old is under contract with the Basque club until 2011 after signing a new deal before the start of the season.

But that has not put off Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, whose spies have been impressed with Amorebieta on recent missions.

Benitez is keen to strengthen his central defensive resources.
