Berbatov happy to stay with 'fantastic' Spurs

Dimitar Berbatov is happy to stay at Tottenham because of the loyalty they have already shown to him.

Spurs signed him for a bargain £10.9million from Bayer Leverkusen last summer and reaped handsome rewards as the Bulgarian international scored 23 goals.

FA Cup finalists Manchester United and Chelsea have already been linked with £30million moves for the forward but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and manager Martin Jol have made it clear they have no intention of selling their prize asset.

Berbatov's agent has also insisted the forward will be at White Hart Lane next season and the 26-year-old marksman said: "The fact Tottenham wanted me from the beginning, stood by me, always liked me and wanted me to come here, were among my reasons for signing.

"They were the first team to contact me, I really appreciated it and that is why I chose to come here.

"From the first day the fans were fantastic to me, they really support me and I am grateful for that."

Reports in Bulgarian newspapers suggest Berbatov is set to sign a new deal which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2013 but they appear to be wide of the mark as he is only a year into a long-term contract.
