Better late... Pompey boss Redknapp hails Capello's 'Golden Generation'

Harry Redknapp believes England's much-derided 'Golden Generation' may be ready
to belatedly shine on the global stage under Fabio Capello.

The boss was a vocal critic of the Italian coach of the national team after last month's poor draw with the Czech Republic at Wembley.

But after last night's thrilling 4-1 victory over Croatia in Zagreb, led by Theo Walcott's hat-trick, he is confident Capello has arrived just in time to rescue the England stars who had been all but written off after their failure to reach Euro 2008.

'Capello has arrived in the nick of time to revitalise the best group of players this country has produced in ages, a crop of Premier League stars who have under-achieved for years under the Three Lions banner - until last night,' said Redknapp.

'Had we waited much longer, it could have been too late. Too many could have been past it.

'But, last night, I believe the whole country sensed the England team had a refreshed look about it, even though the roll call of names has not changed that much in the past couple of years.'
