Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan criticises police investigation into alleged football corruption

Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan today accused the City of London Police of "being more interested in making a name for themselves" after he was arrested in connection with the inquiry into alleged corruption in English football.

Sullivan was held earlier this month with City's managing director Karren Brady on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting. They were later released on bail.

The pair have vehemently denied any wrongdoing and now Sullivan has accused the police of not caring about other crimes, instead preferring the limelight.

Sullivan told the Daily Express: "Two weeks ago a policewoman and three policemen were here searching my house, terrifying my staff.

"They take your fingerprints, they take your DNA, they treat you like some complete prat.

"I've probably paid £200million in tax, £20million last year and I'm paying their wages.

"They could have cleared up hundreds and hundreds of burglaries but they couldn't care less about burglaries.

"Someone in the police force is more interested in going against football and making a name for themselves."

Responding to Sullivan's comments, City of London Police referred PA Sport to a statement they released earlier this week.

It said: "A total of nine people have been arrested in the course of the force's ongoing investigation.

"We are disappointed that several people have chosen to discuss this complex and long-running investigation with the media.

"Bearing in mind that criminal proceedings are active, it is clearly inappropriate for City of London police to comment further at present."
