Birmingham ready to fend off Newcastle advance for Swedish star Larsson

Birmingham City are ready to resist any bid by Newcastle United to sign their Sweden midfielder Sebastian Larsson.

Reports in Scandinavia suggest that Newcastle have offered Birmingham £4.2million for the former Arsenal winger.

Larsson is currently with Sweden at the European Championships and has been  offered a five-year contract by Birmingham.

But despite interest in the  23-year-old following City’s relegation from the Premier  League, the St Andrew’s board are in no mood to cash in:

“We don’t want to sell Seb, he’s part of our plans for next season and I think he’ll be loyal to the  badge,” said chairman David Gold.
