Blackburn on top in derby

Blackburn showed their Premier League class to comfortably see off Lancashire rivals Preston at Deepdale.

Centre-back Christopher Samba scored twice with fellow defender Andre Ooijer putting Rovers ahead in the first minute.

The Dutchman got the final touch after David Bentley's free-kick into the box caused panic in the Preston defence. The visitors' second came five minutes into the second half when Morten Gamst Pedersen's free-kick was headed home by the unmarked Samba.

The same duo combined for a third in the 57th minute as Congo international Samba powered the ball home from a Pedersen corner.

Rovers boss Mark Hughes gave Roque Santa Cruz his first taste of English football in the 64th minute and the Paraguayan went close with a header just wide.
