Blades boys show their cutting edge to down Huddersfield

Huddersfield 1 Sheffield United 2

Two late goals helped Sheffield United come from behind to snatch a fortunate victory.

Michael Flynn’s first-half strike looked set to win it for Huddersfield.

But Darius Henderson and Kyle Naughton both managed their first goals for United within the space of three minutes.

One-time brawlers turned best buddies Stan Ternent and Kevin Blackwell were in the managers’ dugouts.

And five players in this tie were facing their former club.

Huddersfield’s ex-Sheffield United contingent queued up to cause concern for Blackwell, himself an erstwhile Town goalkeeper.

One of them, Danny Cadamarteri, triggered the breakthrough with a short free-kick fired home by Flynn via a deflection off Matthew Spring.

Home boss Ternent, who scrapped with Blackwell seven years ago, had seen play the better football for most of the first half.

There was less coherence about Blackwell’s Championship side who were sluggish until jolted by Flynn’s goal.

Henderson grabbed their equaliser after 81 minutes, drilling in from 12 yards.

Town had little time to recover from the shock of that goal when Naughton added United’s second with a deflected strike from the edge of area after he had been teed up by Matthew Kilgallon.

Naughton had come on as a substitute with 20 minutes to play.
