Blues deny deal for Spurs' Ghaly is done

Birmingham have played down reports that they have completed the signing of Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly.

The Egyptian international has been quoted claiming he has passed a medical and signed a contract with the midlands club.

"I passed the medical and will link up with my new Birmingham team-mates within the next couple of days."

But a Blues spokesman said the deal was "nowhere near" being finalised.

Blues boss Steve Bruce, who has brought in seven new faces already this summer, is still hopeful of signing Ghaly and his Spurs team-mate Mido.

Bruce has been linked with a move for Middlesbrough striker Yakubu should he fail to land Mido. But the Nigerian's agent Barry Silkman does not believe they could meet the asking price for the player, which he claims to be in excess of £10million.

Silkman said: "Birmingham have never made an offer for Yakubu. I would think he would be way beyond their price range.

"I am not saying he would not go to Birmingham but they have not made an offer and even if they were going to, £10million is not going to buy him.

"Middlesbrough have already had offers of £10m and £10.5m and turned them down."

Bruce is determined to add as much quality as possible to his squad and another player on his radar is Nantes full back Franck Signorino.
