Blues make final offer for Robinho

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon today confirmed the club hope to compete the signing of Real Madrid winger Robinho before the end of the transfer window.

It has been reported in Spain that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made a final offer worth £29.5million and warned Real that he won't go any higher.

The Spanish club have been demanding £35m for Robinho, but Kenyon is confident an agreement will be reached.

He said: "The Robinho deal is continuing to rumble on. We have always said it would go to the wire, but hopefully he will join us. However, the squad is strong."

Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari added: "I don't know if we will sign anyone but Chelsea will try. All the teams are trying to buy or sell one or two players right now."

Kenyon, who also denied Chelsea are interested in Valencia striker David Villa, revealed Robinho was one of only two players on Scolari's wishlist when he took over and he has already seen one of his targets, Deco, arrive for £7.9m in July.

He said: "There were two players he wanted us to sign, one was Deco and the other was Robinho."

But Chelsea look certain to fail in their world-record bid for Brazil star Kaka after he revealed he has no interest in leaving AC Milan.

The Blues were reported to be willing to bid £80m for the midfielder and to offer him £200,000 a week wages. But the Brazil star said today: "As long as my aims remain the same as Milan's I'll stay here."
