Blues not looking to bring in Rangers defender Weir, says manager McLeish

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has dismissed speculation linking him with a move for Rangers defender David Weir.

McLeish insisted he has not made a bid to sign the 38-year-old who has made a big impression at Ibrox after moving from Everton.

McLeish said: "I'm pretty close to David. I know him very well. I met him at Tommy Burns' funeral the other week.

Weir will not be linking up with his former Scotland boss at St Andrew's

"I was just talking to him about his season, how well he had done and whether he was staying on at Rangers.

"But there wasn't anything else. I've seen the speculation and what's been written but there was no approach to David nor has there been to his agent."

McLeish is adamant that none of City's back four will be leaving the midlands club this summer.

He said: "There are no plans for anyone in the defence to go."

McLeish is also adamant that he wants central defender Radhi Jaidi to remain with Birmingham after he had been linked with a move to the Far East.

The former Scotland boss said: "Someone in the Middle East wants to loan Jaidi but it wasn't something that suited the club."
