Blundering keeper gives Lee a lifeline
20 September 2007
Madzovski gifted Lee's side a late equaliser after it appeared that the visitors' Premier League woes had followed them into Europe.

Meite: Late equaliser
Bolton were struggling to find their way back into a game in which they were deservedly trailing to Nemanja Milisavljevic's well-taken 53rd-minute goal.
But, with just six minutes to go and Bolton rapidly running out of ideas, lively substitute Daniel Braaten had his legs whipped from under him on the edge of the area.
Nicolas Anelka's free-kick appeared to carry neither the strength nor direction to trouble Madzovski but the keeper allowed the ball to squirm from his grasp and Abdoulaye Meite stabbed home only his second goal for Bolton.
Until then Bolton appeared to be heading for their sixth defeat in seven games under their new manager and he could not really have complained had they done so.
Their frailties at both ends of the pitch were all too obvious — their strikers lacked any killer instinct and the defence often seemed at sixes and sevens.
Bolton wasted the best two chances in the opening half before the Macedonian side grabbed their shock lead.
First El-Hadji Diouf skied an effort over the bar after Kevin Nolan's shot had bounced fortunately for him.
Then on the stroke of half time Gary Speed's pass found Anelka, who took the ball around Madzovski but could only find the sidenetting.
Boltonwere set back on their heels eight minutes into the second half when a simple ball caught out the recalled Gerald Cid.
The defender was out of position and Milisavljevic took full advantage, slotting a low left-foot shot into the bottom corner of the net, much to the pleasure of a partisan home crowd.
Nolan and Anelka both went close but the finishing touch was sadly lacking until the closing stages when Meite popped up with the leveller.
With Spurs due to arrive at the Reebok Stadium on Monday, the late equaliser may yet prove to have bought Lee some time as he battles to lift his side off the foot of the table.
No doubt Tottenham manager Martin Jol will be hoping for the same thing.
BOLTON (4-4-2): Jaaskelainen 5; Hunt 5 (J O'Brien 75mins), Meite 6, Cid 4 (A O'Brien, 63, 6), Gardner 6; Nolan 5, Speed 5, McCann 6 (Braaten 63, 7), Davies 8; Diouf 5, Anelka 5. Booked: Speed, Diouf, McCann, Hunt.
