Boat Race returns to its original home on BBC

The University Boat Race will return to the BBC from 2010 after the corporation agreed a five-year deal to cover the event.

This year's race between Oxford and Cambridge, which is on 29 March, will be the last to be shown on ITV following its decision in December not to renew its contract for operational reasons.

BBC director of sport Roger Mosey said: "We're delighted to have it back."

The BBC's association with the 180-year-old race began in 1927.
