Bolton failed to beat Coca-Cola League Two opposition for the second time in two days as they slipped to a one-goal defeat at Macclesfield.
Plenty to ponder: Gary Megson saw his Bolton side lose to League Two opposition once again.
Wanderers were held to 0-0 draw by Rochdale in a friendly at Spotland yesterday and Macclesfield provided a tough test for the Barclays Premier League side at Moss Rose.
Gary Megson included Ricardo Vaz Te, Ian Walker, Tamir Cohen and Blerim Dzemaili in his starting line-up while Macclesfield brought on Wayne Rooney's brother John for the second half.
After a largely uneventful first half, Macclesfield claimed the only goal of the game 20 minutes from time when skipper Sean Hessey struck from 20 yards.
Rooney should have doubled the home side's advantage, but blazed over from close range.
