Bolton striker Nicolas is untroubled by talk of Chelsea bid

Nicolas Anelka claims he would have mixed feelings if Chelsea made a firm bid for him in the January transfer window.

The Bolton striker is an option for Avram Grant as he looks to bring in cover for Didier Drogba during the African Nations' Cup and reinforce the goalscoring department with the Ivorian's future uncertain.

Drogba will seek showdown talks with the club next summer after voicing concerns about the departure of Jose Mourinho in September and his situation has alerted several potential bidders.

Anelka's position at Bolton is even less certain, with the club apparently willing to sell at the right price and the Frenchman not content to be playing in a struggling side.

Although Anelka insists he is grateful to Bolton for bringing him back to England, he is not sure they can fulfil his ambitions and challenge the big teams.

Anelka said: "I don't know if Bolton can do that. If we can start winning games again then I am happy and I hope it's just a matter of time before we start doing that.

"There is always talk in football. I could have left in the last transfer window, but I didn't want to because I want to do something with this club.

"I love the fans and I love the club. They helped me come back to England. I won't forget that," he told Sport magazine.

Grant hopes to have Drogba back from international duty fit and firing at Derby tomorrow as Billy Davies's side have conceded 31 goals in their 13 Premier League games this season.

The Blues boss was assessing the shape of six of his players for the first time today following their late return from this week's internationals but will welcome Ashley Cole back into his squad.

John Terry was in training yesterday but may not be risked as he continues his recovery from a knee operation and Petr Cech is still out with a calf injury.

Grant's other task will be to raise the spirits of his England players after their European Championship qualifying exit.

But Davies sees no immediate advantage for Derby.

He said: "There will be disappointment but players dust themselves down very quickly. They get back to the day-to-day life of club football and back on it straight away and I don't expect anything different tomorrow."
