Boost for Portsmouth as assistant boss Adams agrees a new one-year contract

Tony Adams has agreed a new one-year deal to stay with FA Cup winners Portsmouth as assistant manager.
The former Arsenal and England star, Pompey boss Harry Redknapp's right-hand man, has succumbed to the lure of UEFA Cup football next season and put on hold his ambitions to become a manager in his own right for at least another 12 months.
Adams' current one-year deal is about to expire but Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has confirmed he will sign a new one.

Dream team: Adams (left) will work with his mentor Harry Redknapp for at least another season at Fratton Park
Adams, who was influential in the introduction of the 4-5-1 system which largely earned Pompey 23 clean sheets last season, has settled for a third campaign at Fratton Park under Redknapp - the two previous ones both resulting in top 10 Premier League finishes.
Storrie said: "I have spoken to Tony's agent and it has been verbally agreed for him to stay for another 12 months.
"Obviously we are delighted with this news as he has become a key part of what we are trying to achieve at this football club."
Meanwhile, Pompey have rejected as "completely untrue" a report that they have signed Brazilian midfielder Marcelo Mattos, 24, from Greek club Panathinaikos by activating a release-clause in his contract with a bid of £5.9 million.
Mattos has impressed in his first season in Greece, attracting much attention from other clubs in Europe, after arriving last summer from Sao Paulo's Corinthians where he was once a team-mate of Manchester United ace Carlos Tevez and Liverpool's Javier Mascherano.
But the player who is believed to be part-owned by agent Pini Zahavi, a close friend of Pompey owner Sacha Gaydamak, is not one of the five stars Pompey say they want to sign this summer.
Pompey's communications director Gary Double said: "There is no truth in this report at all."
