Middlesbrough have joined the race for Matt Taylor and are prepared to meet Portsmouth's £4.5million asking fee.

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate will use Gary O'Neil to persuade Taylor to move to the Riverside Stadium.

Monaco, meanwhile, are planning a £3m bid for Middlesbrough's Fabio Rochemback and are also monitoring Momo Sissoko's situation at Liverpool.

Middlesbrough are still targeting Heerenveen's striker Afonso Alves and Motherwell's forward Ross McCormack.
