Borthwick is still the right man for job, but give him more time

The skipper can't spend the match going around every single player telling them where they have just gone wrong while also pushing in the scrum, jumping at the line out, carrying the ball and hitting rucks and mauls. It has to be a collective effort and we have all bought into the way we are going to play.
I came off the bench during the second half against Australia and would love to get more game time when we take on South Africa on Saturday. We were chasing the game and it was very frenetic and, ideally, a longer stint allows me to make more of an impact.
As one of the more experienced guys in the squad, along with Steve and Phil Vickery, you do have a responsibility to ensure the younger players keep things in perspective. You don't want them to get too beat up about how things went and to focus on how we can put things right and we can make significant steps this week towards a more mature performance.
This is a new page in the development of the England team and we have to move on with new combinations of players and the intensity will rise for the South African match. It's more a chess match with the Wallabies, while the Springboks just want to run over you and they pose a very physical challenge on Saturday.
During last year's World Cup, I made the point there wasn't the necessary link between the England forwards and the backs when we suffered that heavy pool defeat to South Africa. We weren't playing the same game and hadn't that much time together and the same is true now in terms of getting to know each other. Yes, we have had an extra week training together, but you only truly learn about each other - particularly in a new team - when you play matches.
If you are operating a new system, then everyone has to buy into what you are trying to achieve. On occasions, a piece of individual brilliance will come off but, overall, you are not going to get the fluidity of performance that's needed.
You can train against pads or light opposition and a lot of things can go wrong, but you can still stick to the pattern. Then, you come into a match and there are 17 stone guys knocking you back and bits of the jigsaw get upset and it can have a bit of a cascade effect when you don't have the kind of knowledge of each other that the Australians enjoyed, having come into Saturday's match after playing 11 Tests together in row.
I know we will achieve that kind of cohesion and you cannot expect a young team to have everything nailed down straight away. Despite giving away a lot of easy points to the Aussies, we looked more than capable of beating them and that only adds to the feelings of frustration in the camp.
We are, effectively, playing a quarter-final, semi-final and final of a World Cup during these three successive games against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. That's the magnitude of the challenge we are facing and all the players are up for it.
