Brawn promises Button can overtake Hamilton

New Honda boss Ross Brawn has promised Jenson Button a car capable of beating Lewis Hamilton.

Button endured a wretched 2007 season — calling his machine 'a dog' — in painful contrast to Hamilton's dazzling debut season.

Rough deal: Button endured a difficult season with his 'dog' of a car

But Brawn, the mastermind behind Michael Schumacher's seven world titles at Benetton and Ferrari, is confident Button can regain his status as Britain's top driver.

He said: 'The chances are very good. I just can't guarantee how long it will take. There are no obstacles in our way, just a terrific challenge. Jenson has shown admirable perseverance this year. He's kept at it. He deserves more success than he's had.'

Brawn's arrival as team principal is a big boost for Button, who said of the news: 'It's the best thing that's happened for a long time.'
