Brighton query Tevez eligibility in FA Cup

Brighton have written to the FA to find out if Carlos Tevez was eligible to play for West Ham against them in the FA Cup last January.

Tevez was a key figure in West Ham's third round win, and Brighton chief executive Martin Perry will press for compensation if the row over ownership of the Argentina international goes against the Hammers.

The Premier League, who fined West Ham £5.5m, have agreed to Sheffield United's request for the case to go to an arbitration tribunal.

Perry said: "The issue revolves around whether or not Tevez was eligible to play against us. It is about ownership.

"If the FA insist he was eligible, we have nowhere to go. But if it is found that he was not eligible, then we will take it further."
