British best fails to land Sayers medal

Goldie Sayers set a new British javelin record today but it wasn't enough to win a medal.

The 26-year-old from Cambridge threw 65.75metres in the first round to put her in contention for a podium finish.

But she couldn't improve on that distance and eventually finished fourth, an agonising 38cm behind bronze medallist Christina Obergfoll of Germany.

The gold went to Barbora Spotakova, who snatched the title from Russia's Maria Abakumova in the final round with a throw of 71.42m.
