British bruiser David 'Haymaker' Haye hits out a boxing's heavyweight slobs

David Haye will launch his assault on the heavyweights this year after branding the division a "disgrace" populated by "fat slobs".

Undisputed cruiserweight champion Haye has signed a lucrative four-fight deal with Setanta Sports, the third of which is expected to be a showdown with Wladimir Klitschko.

The 27-year-old will meet two top 10-ranked opponents, with Hasim Rahman likely to be first up, before challenging IBF and WBO king Klitschko in the middle of next year.

And Haye is expecting to clean up in a division that he claims has becoming embarrassingly poor.

"I'll fight two top 10 heavyweights and obliterate them. I'll show the world what heavyweight boxing really can be," he said.

"At the moment you have one fat guy fighting an even fatter guy for the world title. It's a disgrace.

"Boxing has become a joke in the heavyweight division and it's time for me to come in lean, sharp, heavy and as a real athlete.

"I'm going to show these fat slobs what real boxing is about. This will be an exciting ride."

Haye enjoyed some verbal sparring with Klitschko as he sought to drum up publicity for a potential clash when the Ukrainian made a recent visit to London.

The 32-year-old, an Olympic gold medallist at Atlanta 1996, was initially dismissive of Haye, insisting he knew little about him and complaining that he kept following him around.

But Haye, who unified the cruiserweight division by demolishing Enzo Maccarinelli in two rounds in March, is ready to make his claim to a showdown impossible to ignore.

"I've met Wladimir Klitschko, who is universally recognised as the best heavyweight, and said that there is no other opponent people want to see him fight," he said.

"He half agreed but has two mandatories in the way in Tony Thompson and then Alexander Povetkin.

"I told him to get those guys out of the way then after that there is no reason why we can't get it on.

"He said I don't have a good ranking, but I told him not to worry about that. He said that if I'm ranked high enough there's no reason why it can't happen.

"There's no other option for him other than me because there are no other big challenges out there for him."

Frank Warren has offered Haye £600,000 to fight Matt Skelton in the autumn but the Commonwealth heavyweight champion's untidy style will be a major turn-off for the explosive Londoner.

Instead he is pursuing Rahman for his second foray into what was once the sport's headline division after dispatching Poland's Tomasz Bonin in one minute 45 seconds.

"We were negotiating with Rahman just in case the Maccarinelli fight didn't come off because we wanted a solid opponent ready as back-up," he said.

"The Rahman fight got pushed to one side, so we'll talk to him again. Hopefully he won't ask for silly money.

"Rahman knocked out Lennox Lewis and has a world-class right hand. That's the sort of fight I'm looking for."

All four fights in Haye's new deal with Setanta Sports will be staged at the O2 Arena with the contract running until December 2009.

It was also announced that Haymaker Boxing has agreed a five-year partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, who now hold exclusive rights to Haye in the United States.

British light middleweight champion Ryan Rhodes has signed up for Haymaker
Boxing, alongside amateur stars Michael Maguire and Leon Williams.

"We are putting promoters on notice that there is a new promotional entity and
new ideal that's here for the fighters and only for the fighters," said Haye's
trainer Adam Booth.
