Cahill confident Everton can shoot down Gunners

The attacking midfielder reports the Toffees' self-confidence has been restored following the victory against Bolton.

Everton went into that Barclays Premier League match on the back of losing to Manchester United on Sunday - their first defeat in 13 attempts in all competitions.

But goals from Phil Neville and Cahill made sure there was no lingering hangover from that setback at Old Trafford.

Now they cannot wait to get to grips with title contenders Arsenal on Saturday.

Cahill said: "I really believe we have a great chance of achieving something. It is all about how we apply ourselves.

"We probably will not see a lot of the ball. But if we get a chance, we have got to try and take it.

"Arsenal will be coming here knowing they are facing a massive game.

"These are the matches the boys look forward to. We were buzzing at Manchester United and we will be buzzing again when we play one of the elite teams in the world."

Everton are within touching distance of Champions League qualification, but Cahill is refusing to get carried away.

"We are flying and are just happy to be in this position," said the Australian, whose goal tally for the season now stands at eight.

"I think consistency is the key to where we stand. There are a lot of players in good form.

"We are taking things a game at a time - but for the club, everything is going really well.

"This is the time of year when you can make or break your season. This is where you see how things will pan out.

"We need to try and get maximum points if we possibly can and push ourselves up the table."

Meanwhile, Bolton aim to chalk up their first win on the road in the league when they visit Sunderland on Sunday.

Manager Gary Megson is anxious for his side to turn things around quickly.

He said: "We spoke about our away form before the Everton game and about the conflict of results since I came in.

"We are doing done okay at home, scoring lot of goals and not conceding many.

"Yet away from home it is completely different, with the same players. It is something we have to find an answer to."
