Calcavecchia forced to find new caddy as his wife refuses to brave elements

Former Open champion Mark Calcavecchia needed to find a local caddy before his round this morning after his wife Brenda decided against carrying his bag.

Mrs Calcavecchia was reported to have taken a look at the ghastly Lancashire weather and decided that she had better things to do than accompany her husband.

Despite his early start time of 7.25am a replacement was found and the 1989 champion went on to shoot a six over par 76, placing him in the middle of those who bore the brunt of the morning wind and rain.
