Calzaghe celebrates and sets his sights on Hopkins
04 November 2007
After Calzaghe's scintillating points victory over Mikkel Kessler in front of a 50,000 crowd at the Millennium Stadium in the early hours of yesterday, promoter Frank Warren wants Hopkins to prove that American champions are still willing to take on challenges overseas.

On top of the world: Joe Calzaghe celebrates victory
Warren said: "We saw Marvin Hagler come to London to face Alan Minter.
"When did Hopkins ever go on the road?"
After adding Kessler's two super-middleweight titles to his own and unifying the 12st division, Calzaghe wants to step up to light-heavy weight to face 42-yearold Hopkins, who has beaten legends Felix Trinidad and Oscar De la Hoya in a colourful 54-fight career.
Warren admitted that home advantage was worth "an extra five or 10 per cent to Joe."
The two fights Calzaghe wants before retirement, Hopkins and Roy Jones Jnr, could earn him £10million.
"With an extra seven pounds on me I'll be totally different. You'll see some proper destruction," said Calzaghe after his 21st defence had drawn rave reviews in America.
"You'll see some proper a***-kicking. Dig all those guys up: Roy Jones, Hopkins, let's do it.
"I've shown America what I'm all about.
"I want to fight for another 12 months and I only want big ones."
Meanwhile Warren declared a British victory over American promoters.
He said: "Ricky Hatton's going to fight Floyd Mayweather in an arena that holds 15,000.
"We got 50,000. In recent years we've seen huge crowds for Nigel Benn, Hatton, Calzaghe and Amir Khan."
The eccentric Hopkins, though, who will be 43 by the time of any proposed fight, is likely to resist pressure from this side of the Atlantic.
Calzaghe will probably have to face him in America in what Warren calls "a promoter's dream" of a fight.
