Calzaghe has only severe bruising to the knuckle, which will allow him to start punching in four weeks.

At the same time, his promoter Frank Warrenwas meeting Taylor's advisers, after which the unbeaten world middleweight champion's promoter Lou DiBella said he was "hopeful that we can reach a solution in the near future about bringing these great fighters together".

With Taylor due to fight Cory Spinks in Memphis in May, a September date with the Welsh southpaw in Cardiff now looks likely.
