Thorsten Engelmann adds weight to the argument that Cambridge can win the Boat Race

Cambridge will be more than 9lbs a man heavier as they bid to prevent Oxford winning for the third successive year.

Tom James, the Cambridge President, who will occupy the number five seat said he was "surprised" by the weight of his crew.

"I didn't realise we had that heavy people in our boat. It's difficult to make a decision if the weight is an advantage. It can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the conditions," he said.

Robin Ejsmond-Frey, the Oxford President who will also occupy the five seat, agreed: "Being heavier is a mixed blessing.

"It means they have some heavier guys but they also have to carry that weight down a very long course.

"We knew Cambridge were going to be big guys. No surprises."
